HAMMER Music: Thursday's Free Music (and more) Pick!

Rock returns to the Hammer Courtyard this July for a series of free concerts hand-picked by popular local independent radio tastemaker, Indie 103.1 fm. Each of the four nights feature back-to-back sets by some of the best and most buzzed-about bands. Galleries open until 9pm and refreshments are available in the courtyard.

Last week kicked off the Hammer Music series with Nico Vega and the Growlers. This week we're treated to rising indie rock stars,
The Deadly Syndrome (their "last show in awhile," as seen above). The local Angelenos have continued their quick ascent following last year's monthly residencies at Spaceland which culminated in signing with Steve Aoki's trendsetting independent music label DIM MAK records. Catch The Deadly Syndrome (w/Miss Derringer) perform the Hammer Courtyard tonight for FREE:
The Deadly Syndrome & Miss Derringer
“... unbridled euphoria — and wry touches such as onstage cutouts of ghosts helped LA band The Deadly Syndrome go from zero to signed in a few short months. Well, that and explosive, unaffected songs right out of the Arcade Fire/Modest Mouse/Wolf Parade playbook.” —The Los Angeles Times

Heavily influenced by American music of the late ‘50s and early ‘60s, particularly the vintage sounds of outlaw country performers such as Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash or the girl group pop of the Ronettes and Shangri Las. Miss Derringer, an LA band, also finds inspiration in the music and attitude of early punk bands like the Misfits and Black Flag.
The Hammer Music series will continue next Thursday (July 17 @ 8pm) with fuzz-maestros, The Duke Spirit (a must see!) and the experimental electronic collective, Io Echo. The summer music series will wrap the following Thursday (July 24 @ 8pm) with north-of-the-border Indie sensations Toyko Police Club and the UK's indie pop outfit,  the Afternoons.

Also, look out for the Hammer's sister series, JazzPOP, which also returns for three consecutive Thursdays this summer. Per the Hammer's press release, the JazzPOP evenings include "three different takes on the jazz sextet/septet that draw inspiration from prog rock, Motown, free jazz, psychedelic pop, and folksy Americana. Organized by San Francisco bassist and independent curator Lisa Mezzacappa. Galleries open until 9pm. Seating for JazzPOP is first come, first served. Members receive priority seating, subject to availability."

All Hammer public programs are free and reservations will not be accepted.
Programs in the Hammer Courtyard do not require tickets.
The first 1000 people to arrive will enjoy the evening festivities.
Admission for is granted on a first come, first served basis.
