FILM SYNOPSISHeavy Metal in Baghdad is a feature film documentary that follows the Iraqi heavy metal band Acrassicauda from the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003 to the present day. Playing heavy metal in a Muslim country has always been a difficult (if not impossible) proposition but after Saddam's regime was toppled, there was a brief moment for the band in which real freedom seemed possible. That hope was quickly dashed as their country fell into a bloody insurgency. From 2003-2006, Iraq disintegrated around them while Acrassicauda struggled to stay together and stay alive, always refusing to let their heavy metal dreams die. Their story echoes the unspoken hopes of an entire generation of young Iraqis.

Here's the word from the AD peeps:Our monthly Thursday night Rumble is back this week with Pop Levi and Le Switch on the bill. Pop Levi (whose 2007 album, The Return to Form Black Magick Party, was T. Rex great) has a new LP in the can, so this is an increasingly rare opportunity to see his band in a truly intimate room. Speaking of the room, for those of you who are here in L.A and haven’t yet checked out 3 of Clubs (on Vine and Santa Monica), it is a low-lit, old school, bar…and note that there is not a sign out front. I’ve come to believe it might very well host the best jukebox in town. High praise.
The night is free for those who RSVP .
